Who runs it

KCBanks.com was built and is run by Aaditya Thapa, a Kansas City founder. It started from a simple frustration: there was no single place to compare local bank rates, and the national comparison sites mostly promote online banks that have no branch here.

Where the numbers come from

The list of institutions comes from the FDIC (banks) and the NCUA (credit unions): every one with a branch in the 14-county Kansas City metro, 160 in all. Rates come from each institution's own published rate pages, checked every day. 59 institutions publish rates we can verify; the rest post rates only at the branch, and their profiles say so.

Large rate changes are reviewed by a person before they appear. Promotional rates that apply only up to a balance cap show that cap next to the number. If we get one wrong, we fix it and link the source.

How rankings work

Rankings are by rate first, then fees and how recently the rate was verified. The full formula is on the methodology page.

How the site makes money

Banks can pay for a clearly labeled “Featured” placement, and lenders can receive quote requests that people choose to send them. Neither affects the organic rankings. Details are in our advertising disclosure.
